The main aim of the treatment is to diminish as most as possible metabolic problems, so that the situation is the closest to not being diabetic.
Thus, the treatment will intend that the blood glucose levels stay as close as possible to the normal levels (between 80-120 mg/dl). With this, the symptoms due to a bad control of the level cited above will disappear, and the possibility of complications will drastically diminish.
